Record Store Day 2024

It’s here! Saturday is 4/20 and also RSD 2024. Stop on by for some amazing collectible releases and storewide sales.

This year promises to be something wonderful, with Paramore as the US RSD Ambassador. We’ll have two different “This Is Why” variants, plus the Paramore / David Byrne collaboration 7″ vinyl, and so much more!

Doors open at 8 am. We’ll let in 10 people when the doors open and will continue to let small groups in every couple minutes until the line is gone, at which time the doors will be wide open!

The first 50 people in line will get a General Admission Summerfest ticket and a Vivarium totebag with other goodies from local stores (thanks to Music Go Round, Plato’s Closet, Board Game Barrister, Fava Tea Company, and McDonald’s for providing goodies, and of course, to Summerfest and Vivarium for supplying tickets and totes!)

The first 15 people in line will also get an RSD goodie bag with a Paramore pin and the highly anticipated Dogfish Head Brewery poster! We have a few extra pins and posters, too.

Then at 5 pm, we’ll be doing a drawing for MORE Summerfest tickets (5 pairs), a few records and CDs, and Vivarium tickets for 21 different shows! Need not be present to win, but we do need your contact info. No purchase necessary, inquire at the door or the register to get tickets.

AND, if that’s not enough, we are also going to be putting out hundreds (maybe even more than a thousand) of preowned vinyl from a sweet collection we had the privilege of buying. So many amazing titles in there, including 80 different Madonna titles, all the Ike & Tina Turner titles, plus a ton more. Come check it out!

On both Saturday and Sunday, we’ll have store-wide sales going on. Our vinyl sale section will have an even bigger sale, and all non-RSD vinyl is 10% off. All other new product in the store is also 10% off, including t-shirts, vinyl accessories, CDs, cassettes, DVDs, Blu-Rays, stickers…yeah, pretty much everything. And preowned music and movies are on sale, too! Take 25% off any preowned items priced at $29.99 and lower.

The sale excludes RSD items, grab bags, and clearance CDs. All items are first-come, first-serve. RSD titles are limited to one copy of a given title per person/loyalty account. There is no limit to the number of different RSD titles you can buy.

Can’t make it in person? We will start online sales of remaining RSD product at 8 am on Sunday. Watch our Discogs page or check out our store at RSD MRKT to find great RSD titles that we can ship directly to you.

Can’t wait to see you at Volta Records, 8 am sharp! (Or maybe a little earlier if there’s something you really, really want. 😉 )

Hello world!

Hey everybody, it’s pretty awesome to be here. I’m Jennifer, the owner of Volta Records. Definitely didn’t see record store owner in my career path, but when opportunity knocks, it’s usually best to answer.

I’m a music lover, most genres. Any given day will find me listening to hard rock, industrial, punk, thrash metal, 80s pop, new wave, and hair metal, grunge, and a bit of disco. I missed having music be a big part of my life, but my career took priority. Now I’m able to combine them both and I love it!

I picked up the inventory from The Exclusive Company’s Greenfield location after they announced all their stores were closing due to the death of the chain’s founder, Mr. G. I just couldn’t bear to see that store close! As an added bonus, the staff agreed to stay on and help build Volta Records.

This site is a work in progress, building as we go, just like the brick and mortar location! I hope you check back regularly to see what’s new and experience the creation of a new record store that builds on the legacy of a Milwaukee-area icon.
