Welcome to Volta Records. We’re dedicated to giving you the very best in new and preowned music and movies, with a focus on quality products and unique titles across a wide variety of genres.
We opened on July 2, 2022 after long-standing record store The Exclusive Company decided to close its doors for good. We just couldn’t let a community staple disappear! Though there is a new owner and a new name, the staff, selection, and service that The Exclusive Company was known for continue on as Volta Records.
Where did the name come from? Well, after Thomas Edison invented the phonograph and tinfoil recordings, Alexander Graham Bell got in the game. He and his colleagues at Volta Laboratory thought that wax would be a better material for sound recordings and after some experimentation, created the first flat spiral record.
Bell’s work led to the records we know and love today, and we are thrilled to be able to pass that passion for recorded sound on to you through the music we sell. Since we are all about continuing the legacies that have come before us, it only seemed fitting to pay tribute to this groundbreaking invention and the lab where it all happened.
